Finally - a card!

I needed a card for someone in the office and used today's sketch challenge on SCS. Here's my card:

Card base, layers and buttons are Ripe Avocado, dp is digital. I put the Crushed Curry pieces through embossing folders and the ribbon is $1 bin! Label punch and die finish it off.

Thanks for visiting - hopefully I'm getting my groove back!

Dazed and Confused!

You know how sometimes things just get to moving too fast to keep up with? I do ....

Have not had much time to craft over the last few days, dh being home, grandkids coming over, Lime Light task needing completed and shipped off, SU parties, downline stuff, yada yada yada

Anyway - here's a slideshow of images that dh put together of the two week trip to MA to get the new boat (warning lots of pictures):

Jordan and Joe are DH's brothers who were an invaluable help to him over the two weeks he spent out there. "PO" is the "previous owner" in boat lingo. Lots of work ahead next spring, but it will all be well worth it in the end!

Thanks for visiting and putting up with my non-card stuff the last few days. I will be back on track here very soon - promise! I'm working on my make and take for next week's downline meeting and with the edits to this blog that will need to be done to stay in compliance with the new IDA from Stampin' Up (grumble grumble grumble). I leave for Washington, DC and points east on the 11th and won't be back in Colorful Colorado until the 26th, so I have lots to get ready so that I can play while I'm traveling!

Quick Update

DH is home from his 2 weeks out East getting the new boat ready for the winter. Grandkids coming over later for dinner so things are a bit hectic. I'll be back later with some pix of the new boat, maybe some of the grandkids and hopefully a card or two!

Thanks for visiting!

Playing with digital scrapbook pages

Here's my second attempt at a digital scrapbook page. I like this one MUCH better than I do my first attempt. I just used Paint Shop Pro on this, but I really want to try my hand at Photoshop and SU's new My Digital Studio.

The journaling needs a lot of help, but I'll get there! Thanks for visiting!

Silliness Alert!

One of my young relatives posted this on her facebook page and I just couldn't resist sharing it too:

Is this a future candidate for So You Think You Can Dance or what?

Silliness is now over .... craftiness to resume soon!

Monday's CAS challenge on SCS

Here is the card I made for this week's clean and simple challenge on SCS - a sketch challenge this week.

Outside:
Inside:

Paper: Handsome Hunter, Crushed Curry, Riding Hood Red, Naturals Ivory, digi dp
Ink: Handsome Hunter, Riding Hood Red
Stamps: Christmas Punch, Season's Greetings
Accessories: punches, bling

I'm going to make a couple of these to include in my package for this month's Lime Light task which is making more cards for soldiers. I think the sentiment is a good one for troops sending cards back home.

This is post #602! WOW - never in a million years thought I'd still be blogging! Thanks for hanging in there with me and for all your wonderful and encouraging comments! You guys ROCK!

September Christmas Card Challenge

This month Tracey challenged us to use one of five proposed techniques to create our cards. I chose embossed resist! Here are my cards.

I stamped the snowflakes in versamark and embossed with clear embossing powder. I sponged on Brilliant Blue, layered the panel on Brilliant Blue on a white card base. I added ribbon and a punched snowflake embellishment with a little mini-tag stamped with "Joy" to finish it off. Stamps used are Serene Snowflakes, Sweet Season, Many Merry Messages and Mega Mixed Messages.

Thanks so much for visiting!

SCS Sketch Challenge #246

I am feeling so uninspired! I have spent the last 10 days fighting with my computer trying to get My Digital Studio to run. I finally got a response from SU this afternoon telling me that I had a corrupt font, but they didn't know which one or how to fix it. Not much help, but a starting point. I began my troubleshooting journey searching the web for insight. I do alot of desktop publishing and so I have quite a few true type fonts installed. In my web travels in search of an answer, I came across an explanation - java doesn't like tt fonts and MDS uses java! I had to get rid of all but the necessary fonts, reinstall java and MDS and cross my fingers. Well it runs now, but all my fonts are gone. I am worn out from this battle! I also don't know whether I will keep it installed. I love my fonts and the flexibility they give me when I'm designing dtp projects! We'll see. Anyway, I thought I'd try today's sketch and see if I could break myself out of this funk. Not too successful, but I thought I'd show it to you anyway.

Don't judge me too harshly - I'll do better next time! Thanks for visiting today.

New digis in the house!

Kaboodle Doodle's very own Ann Vento (Raindrop Echo Designs) has designed some very wonderful digital stamps and you'll find all the details on her blog. I picked up a couple of sets and here are some cards made with the Autumn Sentiments set:

I colored with Koh-i-Noor pencils and blended using stumps and OMS then painted with Champagne Mist ink (available in the Holiday Mini catalog from Stampin' Up!). Background stamps used were from the Autumn Splendor set and were stamped in versamark and embosed with clear ep. The dry embossing was done using a strip from some of the new collection from Cuttlebug and the digital paper is from pcCrafters. Thanks Ann for these wonderful images!

Completely off topic!

Today was my first Christmas Card Stamp Camp of the year and I think a grand time was had by all. I don't have any new cards to show, but I really wanted to show you something that I made for her (for Xmas so shhhhhhh):

Here it is:

I don't know if the sparkliness (is that a word?) of this shows to its full advantage in this photo, but one of the yarns used is aptly called Bling Bling. I think my little princes will look very stunning wearing this ensemble this winter!

Hope to be back on track with some eye candy to show you tomorrow. Thanks for visiting!

Two cards to share

I have two cards to share with you today. One I couldn't post until it was in the hands of it's recipient (Happy Birthday Pat!) and one I made after our downline meeting. I was so stoked to make this card after seeing Kathy's gorgeous swap. I could hardly wait to get home and make it. I needed a sympathy card for someone at work and this was the perfect solution - I think anyway. Enough chatter, here's the cards - first up is Pat's birthday card:

I was inspired by Corinne Somerville (a fantastic Canadian stamper) to make Pat's card. Card base is Night of Navy, layered on that is a stamped panel with stamps from the Charming set in stamped-off Night of Navy for the medallion and straight Night of Navy for the flourish. I stamped the words from the Charming set on a piece of Kraft card stock and then inked up the flower stamp with my markers and stamped over the words, added the butterflies. I cut the edges of both panels with my deckle scissors and then sponged them with Soft Suede. The Sentiment is a misc birthday stamp stamped with versamark on Old Olive and embossed in gold. I notched the end with one of my square punches and added the binder clip as an accent. I think she liked it even though it was a little late!

Next card:

This card was inspired by Kathy's card (if you watch yesterday's slide show I know you will see which one it is) has a base of Always Artichoke. I layered a piece of Mellow Moss that I put through the Big Shot with a texturz plate that I had sponged with Always Artichoke (thanks Pat for teaching me that technique) onto a piece of Dusty Durango. The image panel is Crushed Curry sponged with Always Artichoke, Dusty Durango and Crushed Curry then painted with Champagne Mist all-purpose ink (available in the Holiday Mini). I stamped the tree (from Lovely as a Tree) in Always Artichoke craft ink and then applied clear embossing powder. The embossing powder stuck to the stamped image, but it also stuck to parts of the paint resulting in a really shimmery, shiny image panel. Sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and is stamped in Always Artichoke on Naturals Ivory and punched with the Word Window punch. That is layered on a Lovely Label in Dusty Durango and that is layered on a Lots of Tags die cut in Always Artichoke. I added some Always Artichoke ribbon and a couple of gold brads to finish it off. I think that we will be making this in one of my workshops later this month. It can really work for many different occasions and the Teeny Tiny Wishes set will allow for lots of flexibility.

Thanks for visiting today!

September Downline Swaps

As promised, here is a slideshow of all the swaps from today's downline meeting.

This group of gals is so wonderful and so talented. Lots of sharing of ideas and inspiration as well as some heartfelt discussions of my SU predicament took place and I have decided to go ahead and stay on as a demonstrator for the time being. This has been an agonizing decision making process for me and I have been torn in both directions. I am taking a "wait and see" position for now and I will re-evaluate how things stand after the first of the year. I have lots of things scheduled and I really don't want to abandon all of my plans just yet. I am hoping that as time passes either SU will re-evaluate their positions on some things or it could also be that I will find that over time this is not going to be as creatively restrictive as I think it is right now. Either way, I am giving it until the end of the year before I make a final decision on what to do.

Thanks everyone for hanging in there with me as I see-saw my way through this mess!

Downline Make & Take Card

Well, I didn't make it back yesterday afternoon with my make & take card, but here it is.

I was inspired by a card I saw here. Card base is Close to Cocoa, stamped panel is Brocade Blue and it's stamped in Whisper White craft and Brocade Blue with the under $10 snowflake stamp. Sentiment is stamped on Close to Cocoa and is from Four the Holidays. The snowflake stamp was stamped on Whisper White and punched out with the snowflake punch and decorated with a dab of Crystal Effects and some chunky glitter. Topped it all off by tying a bow of the silver cording that's in the Holiday Mini.

Our monthly downline meeting is today so look for a slide show of cards from these talented gals. I'm busily cutting paper for this weekend's Christmas Card Stamp Camp. If you haven't signed up yet, there are still a couple spots open so email me right away to reserve one!

DH is busily preparing for a trip to MA to check out (and probably buy) a sail boat that he will be living on for a couple months every year once he retires next year. I'll be busy helping him get packed and ready for that over the next couple of days too!

I'll also be picking a blog candy winner later today so stop back and see if you won!

Thanks for visiting!

Downline Meeting Swap

Tomorrow is our monthly downline meeting and this is the swap that I made.

Card base is Real Red. Layers are Old Olive and Whisper White. I stamped the images from Sparkly & Bright on Whisper White and punched and colored them then layered them on tags punched from Old Olive, Real Red and Close to Cocoa. The Whisper White layer is punched with the eyelet edge punch and the ribbon is the 3/4 grossgrain polka dot.

The snowflakes were stamped with versamark and embossed with white embossing powder.

I'll have my make & take for you later today so stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting.

Mojo Monday #103 and New Color Challenge

LeAnne introduced me to a new color challenge this week at Pals Paper Arts and I always enjoy Julee's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenges.

Here's my card:

Card base is Brocade Blue. Layered on Rose Red (although it sure doesn't look like it in this picture) is some Razzleberry Lemonade dp. Strips were dry embossed with border folders and then the image layered on top. Image is from Charming (in the new Holiday Mini) and the ribbon is Crushed Curry (reversed) with some retired ribbon originals black layered on top.

It's going to be a busy week this week - downline meeting on Thursday and I'll have my swap and make & take to share with you tomorrow.

30K Blog Candy and dueling challenges!

Finally, the long promised blog candy. I am still not able to believe that I have had over 30K hits on this blog! Thanks so much for your support of what I do! There's so much wonderful talent out there and I feel honored that you come and visit me as often as you do and leave such wonderful comments. Speaking of comments - that's all you need to do to win this candy. On the 10th I'll use random.org to pick one. I had a comment numbering thingy on here and it worked for about a day, so I'll be back to square one. I ask that you only leave one to make it fair all around. As always, I'll add a bit more to it before it heads out the door on its way - probably something I have made that you might like!

This is a card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge and I also played along in Sharon's Stamp Simply #103 challenge to "stamp over it" - stamp your sentiment over your stamped image. Card base is Dusty Durango, image panels are Very Vanilla layered on Soft Suede that was stamped with the Weathered background stamp. The main image panel was cut with my nesties and layered on Crushed Curry. The background and sentiment stamps are from one of my all time favorite sets (unfortunately now retired) called With Gratitude. The acorns and the oak leaf are from Autumn Splendor in the new Holiday Mini catalog and the little flourishes are from the Charming set, also in the mini. The main image is stamped in Dusty Durango and shadowed with Crushed Curry. The sentiment and the flourishes were stamped with Soft Suede and the acorns are Crushed Curry.

Thanks so much for visiting today and also for your continued support over the last year and a little!

Kaboodle Doodle Challenge #13

Our challenge from design team member Linda this round was to use charms on our creation. Here's what I made for this round:

I've been in a bit of a holiday rut lately and this card is no exception. Card base is Always Artichoke and the dp is layered on Real Red. Flower is die cut from Real Red and Old Olive and decorated with some more of that bling I used last week. The charms are from one of my trips to Alaska and I accented them with more of that same bling only in red this time. Sentiment is stamped in Real Red on Very Vanilla and punched with the scallop oval and layered on a large oval of Always Artichoke.

Be sure to stop over and visit the Kaboodle Doodle blog and check out all the great projects made by the other design team members!

I love sketch challenges!

Here's my card for yesterday's sketch challenge on Splitcoast Stampers.

Card base is Always Artichoke. Image is from Lexicon of Leaves from SU and is stamped on Naturals Ivory and layered on - what else - Soft Suede! The dp is also from an SU designer paper pack that I don't have the name of off the top of my head. I'll come back later and put that info in when I can check my catty and look it up (it's from Thoroughly Modern). I stamped the image in Basic Brown and colored it with Koh-i-noor pencils and used oms and a blender stump to blend the colors. I love fall - warm, rich colors, freshly harvested yummy things like roasted chile peppers and fresh sweet corn! The bling is from the jewelry department at Hobby Lobby - don't limit yourself to just looking in the scrapbook section of your local craft stores - there's wonderful things to be had in other departments too!

Thanks for visiting today. Blog candy is coming ... I promise! I'm dashing off to the office today - the drive is home and copied onto a proper server and today the paralegals will be giving all the data a once over to see if there are any glaring issues. With over 800 gigabytes and 900k+ files - I don't envy them! I'm just glad to have the data home and safe where it belongs at last!

I'm not going to go into the whys and hows of my agonizing decision regarding my SU demo status. It was a personal decision and I am feeling amazingly liberated by it! SU felt they had to make the decisions they made and I had to make the decision I made. I hope they are as happy with theirs as I am with mine! I wish them luck. I will continue to use their products - right alongside all the other wonderful products that are available to me these days! Thanks for hanging in there with me while I sorted this all out. That will be it for the discussion on this topic on this blog.

ETA: My much more level headed uplines have convinced me that I need to stop and take a breath and wait and see before I jump the SU ship. They very realistically pointed out that I don't have to make a decision until the 30th of September. So I will be doing just that - waiting and seeing.

Still here and hanging in!

Hi everyone! I haven't forgotten about the blog candy, just been a little bit preoccupied with what's going on in the SU demo world. I'm determined to put aside all the angst and get my creative juices going again, so look for a new creation tomorrow and maybe, if I get it together, some blog candy.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as I work though this - I appreciate it! I've been surfing and leaving comments and discovering all kinds of new folks out there who are just marvelously creative and enthusiastic about this wonderful craft we all love.

I'm still a demo this month and I have a downline meeting with all my lovely downline buddies next week, so I'll be working on my swaps and my make & take, a bit wistfully as it will most likely be my last, but I'm determined to make it memorable!

Hang in there all you demos who are agonizing over this - I'm searching for some balance and hopefully I will find it. I am learning that there are truly some wonderful people out there who are supportive and willing to listen - who are compassionate and passionate and I appreciate each and every one of you!

Thanks for visiting today and come back and visit tomorrow and we'll have some fun!

Some changes and a bit of a rant

You will notice a few things missing from this blog, namely references to Stampin' Up! SU announced a new independent demonstrator agreement today that would force me to basically strip my blog of much that I consider useful, both to me and to my readers. Instead of doing that, I have temporarily stripped off the SU stuff from this blog. Demonstrators have been told that unless they sign this agreement before October 1, they will no longer be demonstrators. I am really hoping that they reconsider this position of product paranoia and amend the agreement. If they don't, I will no longer be a demonstrator.

The mission statement of SU discusses the love of creativity and sharing that creativity with others, this statment doesn't say that you can only do it using SU products so maybe they need to make some adjustments to that as well. Don't mean to sound bitter here, but I have really enjoyed being a demonstrator and the comraderie that I have shared with my fellow upline, downline and sideline gals has meant more to me than I can even begin to explain. But ... this is asking me to cross a line I am not willing to cross. I cannot do it.

Combined challenge

I saw Mercy's sketch challenge this morning and knew I had to do something with it. When I checked out the SCS color challenge I figured I could combine the two and this is the result!

Card base is Melon Mambo layered with dp from the Razzleberry Lemonade pack. Panel is Crushed Curry layered with Bermuda Bay. Embellishments were stamped on Very Vanilla with Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo using Circle Circus and punches and a little bling added to dress things up a little. Ribbon is Crushed Curry and sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Melon Mambo on Very Vanilla layered on Melon Mambo.

This is a picture of what the sun looks like filtering through our air here today .... YIKES! It was uploaded to the local television station and I grabbed it to show you. The moon was orange/red last night the air is so full of smoke! Driving to Boulder this morning you could barely make out the outline of the mountains!

My hit counter went over the 30k mark, so watch for some candy tomorrow! Thanks so much for all your kind comments over the last year and half that I've been blogging. I was aprehensive when I first started this adventure, but it has turned out to be a treasured part of my daily life now thanks to all of you!

Thanks, really thanks alot, for visiting!
